Hello everyone!

My name is Aila, and as an individual who also takes immense pleasure in writing, I’ve done very little of my own work in recent years. Funnily enough, despite always having a lot to talk about, be it regarding my travels or visits to restaurants, I never successfully managed to marry the two hobbies together. I had a go at creating blogs whilst at university, but it never truly materialised due to the fact that I spent most of my time writing essays and juggling various part-time jobs. Also, I can be quite a lazy person at times and that lended itself more to gaming for entertainment rather than writing…

So, a little about me. I was born and raised in Tottenham, London, and as much as I loved the diversity and excitement of being in one of the greatest capitals of the world, decided to eagerly shoot off to the University of York for some peace and quiet whilst completing my BA Hons in History in 2013 (God, that was a while ago). By the time I was nearing the end of my degree, I realised that I wasn’t quite ready to partake in the reality that is the working world, and moved onto pursue an MPhil in World History at the University of Cambridge in 2016. Studying at Cambridge was one of the best experiences of my life, but after much consideration, I felt as though the small bubble of academia wasn’t quite for me. I wanted to try something different, and stop living on a student income.

After graduating, still feeling undecided on who I wanted to be and what I wanted to achieve, I joined my family wholefoods business as a manager and soon after, co-director. It was really fun: I got barista training, learnt how to make some delicious smoothies and gained experience of liaising with suppliers for buying new products for the store. The nature of the job meant I could socialise with customers whilst selling our organic foods, supplements and cosmetics, so it was a win win. But of course, it was really just an interim period where I could think about what to do next, which led me to gradually move into the world of sales and business development. I am now a Senior Customer Success Manager at a tech company, dealing primarily with contract renewals, and I’m absolutely loving it. But one thing that isn’t quite right is the lack of opportunities to write. I haven’t really had a creative outlet for a while, and I feel like this blog is going to be the missing piece to the puzzle.

As I spent many years scouring beauty blogs to figure out how to make my eye shadow look a bit better than the sad smudge it always turned out to be, as well as utilizing travel blogs and the hub of all guides, Tripadvisor, to meticulously plan my trips to the extent that I was creating thorough itineraries that ensured I was making the most of every location I visited, I realised, I could be that hub of information too. Discussing general lifestyle tips, seeing sights across the world, tasting local delicacies and documenting my adventures has been something I’ve done from a very young age, and I feel like it’s finally time to create a space where others can make the most of information I’ve gathered.

Thank you very much for visiting and I hope you find something useful in my ramblings on here. Feel free to contact me through this form if you have any questions and I will get back to you as soon as I can. 🙂
